Alberto Alemanno

Professor, HEC Paris

Alberto Alemanno is a legal scholar, academic entrepreneur, civic advocate and - due to his desire to disseminate and popularize the results of his research - a social innovator. He was named 2015 Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

He is currently Jean Monnet Professor of Law at HEC Paris and Global Clinical Professor at NYU School of Law where he is the Faculty Director of the EU Clinic. He is also the founder of eLabEurope, a civic start up promoting civic participation and engagement in Europe and beyond.

Originally from Italy, Alberto is a graduate of Harvard Law School and the College of Europe, and and holds a PhD in International Law and Economics from Bocconi University. He is also a qualified attorney at law in New York.

Alberto is one of the leading experts in the areas of EU law and policy, risk regulation and global health and is an emerging public interest lawyer. Alemanno regularly provides advice to a variety of organizations, such as the World Health Organisation, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Parliament, as well as governments across the world.

He has published extensively in the areas of EU law, risk regulation and global health, including the books:

- Governing Disasters – The Challenges of Emergency Risk Regulation (Edward Elgar, 2011)
- Better Business Regulation in a Risk Society (Springer, 2013)
- Foundations of European Food Law & Policy – The First Ten Years of the European Food Safety Authority (Ashgate, 2013)
- Regulating Lifestyle Risks - Europe, Alcohol, Tobacco and Unhealthy Diets (Cambridge University Press, 2014 - with Amandine Garde)

His latest book is titled Nudge and the Law: A European Perspective (Hart Oxford: 2015) with Anne-Lise Sibony.
